But, why do Leap Year and Leap Day even happen at all? Bustle had a great little feature on why Leap Day is, including fun tidbits about how Leap Day was traditionally a day that women could propose to men (the scandal!). Scientifically speaking, however, Leap Day is our solution to the problem that it actually takes the Earth 365 days, five hours, 48 minutes and 45 seconds to completely revolve around the Sun.
